Rianne Coale ideas for date night. Intended for couples looking for the places to spend time together. Coale appeals to emotion as she mentions the savoring food at the Revolution Brewing restaurant. Also quite the decent price for a five star restaurant. Her diction seems quite delirious as she is giving suggestions to best places to go in Chicago. Another area quite worthy after having dinner is visiting the Logan Theater. Go watch a nice movie. Her tone expressed excitement, wanting you to come over and enjoy the snacks. Too bad I am not living in Chicago. I would love to go to these places. Coale would make good tourist guide in the city.

Personally I found this article a bit humorous in my view because of Huppke (author) to the matter. Huppke starts out with a cynical tone about killing off all of the deer and then shifts his focus to the end of the world scenario. in my sense, this is almost like that one stressed out friend who just lost it. Furthering his claims of "the end of the world," he refers to a theoretical physicists, Stephen Hawking and his statement of finding a new planet within a 100 years because of "climate change, asteroids strikes, epidemics, and population growth." Huppke agrees with him and then, in a sassy tone, " In case you haven't notice, we have leaders who are erratic narcissists armed with nuclear weapons." That is like a mock to Hawkings and this is based on Huppke's personal observation on today's society, just emphasize it a bit dramatically. Could be his personality or for humor. His targeted audience, based on his informality and worrisome diction, is mostly to people, mainly young teenagers who have a "radical" view on the world. Young teenagers because the text is fairly simple and spoken in "the same language as them," and radical because sane people know this stuff already do not give much a reaction to it. Now, end of the world in not all Huppke talk about as he shifts to deer. Second half of the article is the part that gets me but is true. Reasons why Huppke wants all deer to be killed is because they scavenge human bones (if buried in the forest). Most people would think that deer are mostly herbivores but there is footage of deer eating small animals - I will post a link. Huppke complains and uses charged words such as "death", "bloodthirsty," "strike..." to convey the audience to murder all deer. Personally, if his goal was to convince that deer are evil, he successfully done so in a humorous way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQOQdBLHrLk - Deer Eating Bird (Watch on your own risk. Even I was shocked when I first saw this.) Story link
April 22, also known as Earth Day and today in Chicago, there are protesters marching for the "basic facts of science." Eltagouri and Lee (authors) point out the reason for the march, "Standing up for scientific research and initiatives they feel under threat by policies of Trump's administration - cutting 20% of funds to the National Institute of Health." When it comes to the advancement of technology, I would understand why people would go do this march, even I would join the march if science research is cut down and that would slow technological advancement that might be needed in the future. We need to the funds in order to the learn more about what is beneficial for society. Authors expressed the same concern as they described the feelings of the crowd and the signs they held. One of them caught their eye and that is a six- year old girl yelling, "There is no Planet B!" They also mention an 70 year old sociologists holding the image of Earth and the Solar System. Choosing for these two specific people indicates that not only science lovers and scientists advocate for the march but also a wide range of different age groups account for it as well. Story Link
It is today with the release of the 8th installment of the Star Wars trailer. Borrelli attended a Star Wars convention in Orlando and takes the pleasure of recording the old casts of star wars (like before Force Awaken cast with the exception of Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill) and their reactions to the latest trailer released. His tone in the beginning feels like he is trying to restrain himself from showing too much emotion in his writing. Instead he writes with candid tone as he describes the people sleeping outside of the waiting room eagerly waiting to enter the ballroom until the casts enter and he shift his focus to them. His neutral diction is merely a recording of what the casts said during their conversation about their confusion of the characters plot. A side note to Borrelli's diction is that it was able to bring up an image of how the casts would act in their confusion. In my head, it would be full of laughs and jokes with Hamill saying "Wait for release, then you will get your answer." Borrelli takes note of their conversatio possibly to inform the Star Wars fans that even the old casts themselves do not know what is going to happen and just like the fans, they are just as appalled and thrilled for the movie. As for appeal, I would say ethos as having the old cast come out and hear what they say about the trailer with Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill on stage possibly to answer the questions of everyone. Weather report in the Chicago area on March 13. It is used to inform everyone about snowfall hitting the Metro area soon and is under the 'lake- effect' snow warning. The report stays statistical, listing the time and the estimated amount of snow (5 - 11in.) There are other reports of several flight cancellations at the O'Hare International Airport and the crash report of two vehicles with seven wounded at the incident. Diction and tone remained detached and is written to primarily focus of the objective of weather. Story link
Serving seven years in prison after a felony drug conviction, a Mexican serving in the U.S Army risks of being deported back into Mexico. Pashman (author) started out the introduction with an anecdote of the veterans days in Afghanistan and how Miguel Perez Jr. remembers seeing the America flag flying above the base camp. A beacon to him that he survive the mission. Returning home, he was diagnosed with Post- traumatic stress disorder and with that, he reconnected with a old friend who provided him free drugs and alcohol. He was caught when he gave an undercover officer a bag of cocaine. Now he is taken custody by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Pashman's primary appeal is the emotions given by the Perez's fellow veterans and family's support as well as the his lawyers appeals to not make Perez deport back to Mexico because of his service in the Army. Pashman's diction remained informative and impartial to the matter; writing a report of his intended subject and situation. He may also write to the audience of veterans and immigrants in the army as he provided a key information for them about citizenship in the U.S: Military service does not automatically make an immigrant a citizen of the U.S. It is not until George Bush on 9/11/01 signed an executive order that states immigrants must apply immediately for expedited citizenship. Perez was not in the area when the order was issued and since the did not know of it until 15 years later. Pashman's tone remained aloof and serious throughout his article of researching Perez's background, story, the before and after conviction results. How the Department of Defense and ICE decision on deportation is still in question. News: Police Arrest Man Who Punched A Hotel Worker Who Was Run Over By Cab
The author William Lee uses an informational diction to report a morbid and unjust scene. As a reporter, Lee wrote the article through information he gathers about the last year incident. His information is straightforward in describing the events that happened during the scene. Gathering information from law authorities, collection of 911 calls, footage, and interviews with family, the appeal to logos is immense. The information also reveals a surprising attribute to the scene in which bystanders watched the whole scene from the guy who punched the victim to being run over by the cab. In an audience point of view, this would generate a shocking emotion and raises controversy in the human nature (like why did people stood there while the victim was punched and knocked out and how come no one came to the streets where the victim was laying? They had two minutes and the man who punched him was already gone. Did the cab driver not see a man laying on the street?) The author tries to maintain a monotonous tone but there are hints that he is shocked as well through a hasty and simple syntax, only consisting of two or three sentences per paragraph. As his job as a reporter, he informs the audience of a story about a man who died on the streets while his perpetrator escapes for a year. It is until now, the story revived after the supposed suspect is caught. |
