April 22, also known as Earth Day and today in Chicago, there are protesters marching for the "basic facts of science." Eltagouri and Lee (authors) point out the reason for the march, "Standing up for scientific research and initiatives they feel under threat by policies of Trump's administration - cutting 20% of funds to the National Institute of Health." When it comes to the advancement of technology, I would understand why people would go do this march, even I would join the march if science research is cut down and that would slow technological advancement that might be needed in the future. We need to the funds in order to the learn more about what is beneficial for society. Authors expressed the same concern as they described the feelings of the crowd and the signs they held. One of them caught their eye and that is a six- year old girl yelling, "There is no Planet B!" They also mention an 70 year old sociologists holding the image of Earth and the Solar System. Choosing for these two specific people indicates that not only science lovers and scientists advocate for the march but also a wide range of different age groups account for it as well.

It is today with the release of the 8th installment of the Star Wars trailer. Borrelli attended a Star Wars convention in Orlando and takes the pleasure of recording the old casts of star wars (like before Force Awaken cast with the exception of Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill) and their reactions to the latest trailer released. His tone in the beginning feels like he is trying to restrain himself from showing too much emotion in his writing. Instead he writes with candid tone as he describes the people sleeping outside of the waiting room eagerly waiting to enter the ballroom until the casts enter and he shift his focus to them. His neutral diction is merely a recording of what the casts said during their conversation about their confusion of the characters plot. A side note to Borrelli's diction is that it was able to bring up an image of how the casts would act in their confusion. In my head, it would be full of laughs and jokes with Hamill saying "Wait for release, then you will get your answer." Borrelli takes note of their conversatio possibly to inform the Star Wars fans that even the old casts themselves do not know what is going to happen and just like the fans, they are just as appalled and thrilled for the movie. As for appeal, I would say ethos as having the old cast come out and hear what they say about the trailer with Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill on stage possibly to answer the questions of everyone. |
